Bermuda Forwarders are the only company in Bermuda with the infrastructure to handle and expertise to handle large event logistics and have provided support for the Newport-Bermuda Race, the Marion-Bermuda Race, the PGA Grand Slam, numerous conventions and concerts, and presently for the various teams and organisations involved in the 2017 America’s Cup.
Bermuda Forwarders is a third generation family company established in 1955 by W. H. “Winky” Kempe who began his career as a H. M. Customs’ officer. His son Toby took over in 1982 after working for 4 years in Boston with a relocator. In January 2017, Toby’s son took over as President. Over 60 years since the company’s founding, Nick works alongside his parents, Toby and Nancy, as well as his sister, Abigail.
With each generation, Bermuda Forwarders has grown and added new services for its customers. Winky was at the forefront consolidating shipments when containerization came to the island in 1975. Toby started the first data storage centre on the island in 1988. The company has also grown with acquisitions of Bermuda Transfer and Storage in 1981 and then Globe Forwarding in 1997. Finally, in 2018 Bermuda Forwarders was acquired by BEST.
